Kansas City Bikers Raise $630,000 for Babies

Despite 30 mph winds, more than 5,680 motorcycle riders gathered at Kansas Speedway September 14 for the 14th Annual Kansas City Bikers for Babies ride to benefit the March of Dimes. Participants raised more than $630,000, more than any March of Dimes motorcycle ride in the nation this year.

Bikers for Babies has raised more than $3.7 million in Kansas City in its 14-year history. Funds raised by Bikers for Babies support local research grants focused on issues related to premature birth and community programs such as NICU Family Support at Saint Luke’s Hospital.

Participants enjoyed a 79-mile all-Kansas ride, complimentary lunch, People’s Choice Bike Show, dealer’s expo, DynoDrag demonstrations and live music by three bands.

Ed Hale of Raymore, Mo., and his “Posse” were winners of the 2009 Harley-Davidson FXDC Dyna Super Glide drawing, courtesy of Worth Harley-Davidson North. Hale, the top fundraiser for all Bikers for Babies events in the country, collected more than $72,000 this year with the help of his Posse.

The American Motorcycle Association-sanctioned ride was sponsored nationally and presented in Kansas City by Farmers Insurance. Lead local sponsors included 98.9 The Rock and Hooters.
